During the summer of 1973. however, a radical change of circumstances brought about by the sudden departure of guitarist Bernie Marsden paved the way for a brighter and far more successful future... Enter German born guitar Wunderkind Michael Schenker a blond haired musical Adonis whose fretboard dexterity not only dazzled UFO's core members (vocalist Phil Mogg, bassist Pete Way & drummer Andy Parker), but attracted universal acclaim from fans & musicians alike. Schenker’s transfer from the Scorpions, a deal negotiated with a relative lack of fuss, served to broaden the UFO appeal straight away; the 18 year old’s image, Hair and perfectionist streak helped to consolidate a new record deal with the Chrysalis label and gave an extra boost to the recording of the band’s first ‘real’ album. ‘Phenomenon’ - a project helmed by producer & Ten Years After bassist, Leo Lyons.
